Bell MTS Place is an indoor multi-purpose arena located in Downtown Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Bell MTS Place, formerly known as the True North Centre and MTS Centre, first opened on November 16, 2004 and was initially built to replace the Winnipeg Arena. With several amenities, facility extras and state-of-the-art sound systems, Bell MTS Place was built with the visitor in mind. These above and beyond qualities have made Bell MTS Place one of Canada’s leading sports and entertainment facilities.
Of course, no Canadian arena would be complete without a professional hockey team to call its own, and Bell MTS Place is no different, housing current tenants, the Winnipeg Jets. Along with the numerous games played by the Jets, the Bell MTS Place schedule has also hosted other distinguished sports events like the 2007 IIHF World Women’s Championship, the 2009 BCO Classic Canadian Open and the 2009 World Deaf Ice Hockey Championship.
Although sports remain a highlight on the arena's schedule, the facility is also a popular concert and live music venue. In the past, Bell MTS Place has hosted the 2005 Juno Awards, the 2008 Canadian Country Music Awards and the 2009 Aboriginal Peoples Choice Awards. In addition, Bell MTS Place has welcomed big names like Bon Jovi, Mariah Carey, Black Eyed Peas, Dierks Bentley and Bruno Mars to its stage. With such an impressive structure catering to both music and sports fans alike, its no surprise that Bell MTS Place is among the most popular and successful events venues in the country.
