      Songs of Emily Dickinson

Songs set to the poetry of Emily Dickinson, by pianist and composer Logan Skelton

      Logan Skelton, piano

      Jennifer Goltz, soprano

Logan Skelton is a much sought after pianist, teacher and composer whose work has received international critical acclaim. As a composer he has a special affinity for art song, having composed well over a hundred songs, including numerous song cycles. Critics have noted the close fusion of text and music in Skelton’s songs, how words are “…illuminated with brilliance and deep emotional power” (American Record Guide).

Soprano Jennifer Goltz specializes in new chamber music, cabaret, and art song. In recent years she has premiered works by Robert Morris, Michael Daugherty, Andrew Mead, Forrest Pierce, John Berners, and many others. She is a founding member of the new music ensemble Brave New Works. Her collaboration with composer-pianist Logan Skelton spans more than a decade, two continents, and five premiered song cycles. At the invitation of the composer, she performed Luciano Berio’s Circles at the Salzburg Music Festival’s Boulez and Beriocelebration. She won raves as Pan in the premiere of Kamran Ince’s new opera Judgment of Midas in early 2013; the live recording will be released by Naxos. She has also recorded for Albany, Centaur, MSR Classics, and Blue Griffin. Her recording of Arnold Schoenberg’s Pierrot lunaire and Brettl-lieder with the Los Angeles-based ensemble inauthentica was hailed by Gramophone as “captivating” and “brilliant… a voice full of subtle allure and sprightly energy.” She holds a Master’s degree in Vocal Performance and a Ph.D. in Music Theory from the University of Michigan. She has taught at Scripps College in Claremont, CA and at UM.
